Lawyers Representing Women With Ovarian Cancer Caused By Talcum Powder

What could be more wholesome than talcum powder? The sweet-smelling dusting powder was used for decades to prevent chaffing and help keep skin — even baby’s skin — dry and fresh.

In recent years, we’ve learned that the use of talc is linked to ovarian cancer in women who used the powder in the genital area. A number of studies associate talcum powder with an increased risk of ovarian cancer. The journal Cancer Prevention Research published a study in June 2013 that demonstrated women who dusted their groin area with talcum powder were shown to have a 20 to 30 percent greater risk of developing ovarian cancer than women who did not use talc products for intimate personal hygiene.

Negligence By Product Manufacturer Puts Women At Risk

Upon hearing this news, Johnson & Johnson, the maker of talc-containing products, did nothing.

  • They did not immediately remove talc from their products
  • They did not place consumer warnings on the products
  • NOTHING was done to protect the public

Despite the mounting evidence of serious health effects from use of talcum powder in the genital area, manufacturers of talcum powder products continue to refuse to warn consumers of the deadly potential dangers.

Here’s How It Happens:

When talcum powder is applied to the groin area of women, particles travel through the vagina, into the uterus and along the fallopian tubes to the ovaries. From there, it can take years to dissolve, and research shows that it can cause inflammation.

A woman named Jackie Fox had her cancerous ovaries surgically removed. Talc was found within them. She died of ovarian cancer. A court in St. Louis ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $72 million in damages to her family. All but $10 million was in punitive damages.

Testimony showed that 1,500 women per year will die of ovarian cancer linked to Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder and Shower to Shower body powder.
